Overview: SK hynix Memory Solutions America Inc. (SKHMS America) is a research and development (R&D) subsidiary of SK hynix, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing. SKHMS America operates in San Jose, California, USA, and specializes in customized NAND-based storage solutions.
History: In 2012, SK hynix acquired Link_A_Media Devices Corporation (LAMD), a storage solutions company that provided custom System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for HDD and SSD markets. After the acquisition, LAMD became SK hynix memory solutions and later changed its name to SK hynix memory solutions America Inc. in 2018.
Acquisition: On October 20, 2020, SK hynix and Intel signed an agreement under which SK hynix would acquire Intel's NAND memory and storage business, and together with SK Hynix Memory Solutions America it had formed a new 'Solidigm' subsidiary to operate the fab and handle the SSD business.
